What is it?

A Work Permit is your ticket to legally work in the Czech Republic. It lets you take a specific job with a specific employer.

Unlike the Employee Card, Blue Card, or Intra-Company Transfer Card, this permit doesn’t automatically let you live in the Czech Republic. You’ll need to get a separate residence permit.

Right now, Work Permits are mainly given to people from Ukraine who have tolerated stay visas. You can also apply for one if you’re looking for a short-term work visa.

How to Apply for a Work Permit

You’ll apply for the Work Permit at the regional office of the Labor Office that’s closest to where you’ll be working. If you’re not in the Czech Republic yet, your future employer or someone you authorize can apply for you.

The Work Permit is valid for 2 years and you can extend it when it expires.

What You Need to Apply

To apply, you’ll need to fill out a form and provide a copy of your passport. You’ll also need to give them your employment contract, an agreement on work activity, or a future contract. It’s important to know that your contract or agreement must contain other information than that required by the Labour Code. If your job requires special skills, you’ll need to prove you have them.

Everything needs to be in Czech. If you have any documents in another language, you’ll need to get them officially translated.

You can only apply for a job that’s listed with the Labor Office. Your employer needs to register the job with the Labor Office before you can apply.
